INTRODUCTION OF THE DEPARTMENT

Applied Physics is a post graduate department offering courses leading to M.Sc. degree in Applied Physics with specialization either in ELECTRONICS or SEMICONDUCTOR. The department also offers excellent research facilities in Semiconductor Electronics, Photovoltics, Thin Film Devices, Conducting Polymers and Specialized Glasses leading to M.Phil and Ph.D degree. The department can also offer M.Phil degree program in Communication Electronics, Microprocessor/microcontrollers based system design and development of optical and electronics design software.

A view of Department

Since its inception in December 1971, the Department of Applied Physics has grown from a initial students population of 5 at M.Sc. level to the present student strength of over 150. As present 6 students are enrolled for M.Phil./Ph.D. degree program. During these years, the department has developed a reputation where it has become the first choice of the students seeking admission in Physical Sciences.

The increase in the number of students has been possible due to a parallel increase in supporting facilities like; M.Sc. Electronics and Communication Laboratory, PLC laboratory, Computer and Interfacing Laboratory comprising a local area network (LAN) of advanced PCs and Research Laboratories.
